NEW YORK — Field hockey star Sammy Macy of Massachusetts Lowell and swimming standout Kendra Stern of Amherst have been chosen Honda athletes of the year in Division II and III.
Macy, of Tewksbury, Mass., was captain of her undefeated field hockey team, which won the Division II national title. She scored a single season school-record 30 goals and 76 points. She also holds the single-game record of five goals and 11 points.
Stern, of Albuquerque, N.M., is the NCAA Division III swimmer of the year. She holds NCAA records in the 100, 200 and 500-yard freestyle. She finished her career undefeated in the 100 and 200 free. She holds 10 school records and qualified for the 2012 Olympic trials in three events.
They will be presented their awards at Columbia University in New York on June 27.
